A little bit about Muriel Wallace-Scott

I am a registered nutritional therapist and functional medicine practitioner with a real passion for gut health, the immune system, and supporting people with chronic and/or unexplained symptoms. My approach involves supporting my clients using evidence-based nutritional medicine, lifestyle interventions and supplements (where appropriate) to optimise their health, help them feel better and happier.. I love working with people and help them figure out the root cause behind their symptoms and ill health. I do the detective work so they can understand their body better, finally connect the dots of their health puzzle and maybe understand why they became sick in the first place.. Sadly good health can be really hard work for some people but I firmly believe that anyone, no matter how poorly they are, can improve their quality of life with the right interventions and support.. My journey in healthcare and nutrition began many years before I trained in nutrition and functional medicine. I can completely relate to what it is like to not feel yourself , going from one doctor to the next looking for answers and being told that there is nothing wrong, or being given a diagnosis (sometimes incorrect!) and being left with little to no support. I don't think that is good enough. I feel strongly about not only helping people gain a better understanding of their body but enabling them to take an active role in their healthcare in order to get better.. MY PRACTICE:. I practice nutritional therapy using a functional medicine approach.. While conventional medicine focuses primarily on diagnosing a disease and how to manage symptoms as the disease progresses, functional medicine takes a step back and a more holistic view. Functional medicine looks for underlying imbalances and dysfunctions in the body which may have caused the symptom or disease in the first place, and aims to restore balance and health. Every person is biochemically unique so treatment should be just as individual.. There is no one-size-fits-all protocol, so even if you and a friend have the same symptoms or condition you are unlikely to get the same support plan. After all, your journeys have been entirely different and unique. This is why I strongly believe that working with an experienced practitioner is a must, especially if you have tried to improve your health on your own but have had limited to no success.. If we are going to work together, know that you will not just be another number and I will truly be supporting you throughout this journey. Because I mostly work, and more importantly enjoy working, with people with complex health issues, I invest the time that is needed outside of your appointment time to really immerse myself in your case, researching and learning as much as I can about you, your uniqueness, your background, your medical and family history, your physiology... I never take on more clients than I can manage at any one time and I allocate time in my schedule to support my existing clients as needed. I am not one of these practitioners who see clients back to back all day every day and forget about you the moment your session is over. For these reasons, I only work with people who are truly committed to getting better and ready to put in the work.. Please contact me to book a discovery call to check that we are the right fit for each other.. These are the main areas I can help with and love working with:. Gut health and all gut related symptoms and conditions. Immune system and autoimmunity, allergies, intolerances/ sensitivities, food reactivities, recurrent and/or chronic infections, feeling "run down", fatigue. Female health and hormones, stress, PMS/PMT, weight management issues, vaginal health. Cardiometabolic health, metabolic syndrome, blood sugar imbalances, fatty liver, hypertension.... Skin complaints. Thyroid dysfunction. Children's health. Unexplained chronic symptoms. SUPPLEMENTS & TESTING. My approach focuses on food and lifestyle first. I also use nutritional supplements where appropriate and testing through the NHS and private laboratories. These are optional and discussed during the consultation.. Examples of functional tests that I often use in my clinic are comprehensive stool tests, hormones, thyroid, autoimmune, food reactivity/allergy panels, nutrient status, etc... Most of these tests are run by private labs, but there is absolutely no pressure for you to embark on private testing.. From experience, testing can enable me to gain a deeper level of understanding about you and allow me to make more specific and targeted recommendations. I am however passionate about making my services accessible for all, which is why I work to offer the most cost-effective plan and only recommend supplements and testing where absolutely essential.
